Scholarships
The University is an active participant in scholarship programs that:
- recognise academic achievement and attract outstanding students from around the world
- acknowledge a special responsibility to providing access to students who might otherwise be excluded by socioeconomic, cultural, geographic and other disadvantages
Programs include:

Scholarships available through the University
The Melbourne Scholarships Program - one of the largest and most comprehensive in Australia - supports around 3000 high-achieving students at the University, including undergraduate and graduate, local and international, Indigenous, and those enrolled in access and equity programs.
- Scholarships can take the form of partial or full coverage of tuition fees for undergraduate or international graduate students.
- Other scholarships offered are in the form of a stipend (ie. a living allowance).
- Selection is normally based on academic merit but personal circumstances may be taken into account for some of the equity based scholarships.
- All students must meet the stipulated criteria for the scholarship.

- undergraduate students
- graduate coursework students
- graduate research students

Scholarships available through the Australian Government and AusAid
Australian Scholarships is an initiative of the Australian Government to promote education cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region. The total value of Australian Scholarships over the five years from 1 July 2006 will be A$1.4 billion.

AusAID
As part of the Australian Scholarships scheme the Australian Government through AusAID offers a substantial number of Australian Development Scholarships to students from developing countries.

Other scholarships
The University also welcomes and enrolls students whose study is supported by other scholarship programs. Students should outline the financial support they will obtain and their obligations under these scholarship programs when applying to the University. Arrangements can be made to invoice scholarship providers direct for tuition fees.
