Community Access Program (CAP) under the non-school leaver entry pathway

Applicants may elect to enrol in University of Melbourne first year single subject study via the Community Access Program (CAP) in assessed mode to either meet your course prerequisite requirements; or meet the basis for entry; or both.

Using CAP to meet course prerequisites

Specified first year subjects can be completed using CAP and, for applicants using the non-school leaver entry pathway, if the required standard is achieved will be deemed equivalent to the VCE prerequisite.

Check course prerequisites via Course Search. The following prescribed CAP (assessed mode) subjects are available to non-school leaver entry pathway applicants to meet the equivalent VCE Units 3 and 4 prerequisites:

For prerequisite VCE Units 3 and 4 which require a study score of 35, a H2B (70-74%) in the corresponding first year CAP subject will be required to meet the prerequisite.

After achieving CAP study results as required for course prerequisites, non-school leaver entry pathway applicants are required to undertake an admissions test (the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)); or undertake additional CAP subjects (assessed mode) to meet the basis for entry.

Using CAP as a basis for entry

Non-school leaver entry pathway applicants are required to:

It is recommended that applicants enrol in CAP subjects required to meet prerequisites and where possible, should complete at least half of their CAP subjects using subjects that are offered as part of their intended degree (see the University handbook for course structure details).

When to enrol in CAP

Applicants wishing to use CAP under the non-school leaver entry pathway must enrol in CAP and complete their CAP study before lodging their application for their chosen undergraduate course.

Gaining credits from CAP study towards your degree

Students who complete prescribed CAP subjects under the non-school leaver pathway will be entitled to receive credit for the subjects, providing the subjects fit into the requirements for the degree in which they subsequently enrol and total credit granted for the course does not exceed maximum amounts.
