Non-school leaver entry pathway

The University of Melbourne is committed to significantly increasing the participation of students from diverse backgrounds and welcomes applications from non-school leavers and mature aged students. Applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements for selected undergraduate courses may be eligible for entry using the non-school leaver entry pathway.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the non-school leaver entry pathway, you will need to:
  • be 23 years or older; and
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa; and
  • have no qualifications from the past seven years which could be used as a basis for entry

Meeting course prerequisites
Prerequisite subjects must be completed before commencing a course and are expressed in terms of the required mark in specific Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) studies. Check course prerequisite information via Course Search.

For selection under the non-school leaver entry pathway, prerequisite study (except for English) must have been taken within the last ten years.

Prerequisites in most cases can be met with successful completion of specified VCE 3/4 units. VCE courses are available for people returning to study at a range of providers:

Alternatively, non-school leaver entry pathway applicants can choose to undertake University of Melbourne first year subjects through the Community Access Program (CAP) to meet course prerequisites.

In some cases, it may also be possible to meet prerequisites with university or TAFE subjects you have studied; contact us to see if this applies to your course.
