Student Profiles
Diana Reyes
Mexico, Master of International Business, Current Student
Why did you choose to study International Business?
Two things that have always motivated me are travel and dynamic environments; I cannot imagine myself staying in one place for
too long. I wanted my career to allow me to do what I am most passionate about, and International Business is a great way to do
so, it gives me the possibility of developing in fast-paced environments, interact with different cultures and travel...
What were you doing before you started your study at Melbourne?
Before coming to the University of Melbourne, I was working at The United Nations Environment Program, Regional office for Latin
American and the Caribbean. My role was that of the program assistant for the Caribbean Developing States, where I helped
administer and promote environmental programmes in the English-speaking islands in the Caribbean.
The Master of International Business at Melbourne has helped me understand with greater depth the relationship between international organisations, corporations and governments. It has helped me understand how the organisation I used to work in was structured, how certain issues came into play and why some decisions were taken. If I had knowledge of these issues while I was working there, my contributions could have been more valuable.
Have you used the University's support services?
Yes. I was given the opportunity to participate in the [Faculty of Economics and Commerce Graduate Careers Centre] Mentoring
Program, which turned out to be one of the best things the University has to offer. It has allowed me to talk with professionals
who work in the fields I am interested in and it has given me a better perspective of what I want to do after graduation. The
mentoring program has also allowed me to network and it has opened many doors that could lead to future endeavours that could be
key in my career.
What are your goals for the future?
In the near future, I would like to gain some experience in the Australian or Asian Region in a multinational consulting firm. In
the long run, I want to start my own exporting business.
