2008 Commonwealth supported places

As a Commonwealth supported student your tuition costs are subsidised by the Government.

Students who commence study in a Commonwealth supported place at the University of Melbourne in 2008 will pay the student contribution amounts by subjects in the disciplines and courses outlined in the following table. The amount a student pays for their course is based on the subjects chosen and not on the overall course.

Discipline
Annual student contribution amount for a standard full-time load (actual contribution will be charged by subject)
Law, accounting, administration, economics, commerce, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science
$8,499
Mathematics, statistics, computing, built environment, other health, allied health, engineering, science, surveying, agriculture

$5,807
Education, nursing (national priorities)

HECS contributions will be set at a single amount for each subject at the relevant rate, even though the subject may be available in several different courses. The following example is provided to outline how a course contribution is calculated:

Example

Maria is a first year, full-time student enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place in the Bachelor of Arts. She enrols in a total of 100 credit points, comprising eight subjects. One hundred credit points is equivalent to 1 EFTSL (Equivalent full-time student load) at the University of Melbourne.

Each of Maria's subjects is worth 12.5 credit points or 0.125 EFTSL. The subjects she enrols in are across more than one discipline: six subjects in humanities; one subject in economics and one in accounting. Her HECS contribution for that year is calculated as:

(6 x 0.125 x $5,095) + (1 x 0.125 x $8,499) + (1 x 0.125 x $8,499) = $5,946#
#Total rounded.
